Mizdakhan Necropolis. One of the most mysterious and spiritually significant sites in Karakalpakstan, Mizdakhan is a vast ancient necropolis that has been a place of pilgrimage for centuries. Spread across gentle hills, the complex contains numerous mausoleums, tombs, and sacred monuments from different historical periods.According to local legends, Mizdakhan is linked to ancient prophecies about the end of the world, which has made it an important spiritual destination for generations. Walking among the weathered monuments, visitors experience a unique atmosphere where history, mythology, and desert landscapes come together.
Gyaur Qala Fortress. Located near Mizdakhan, Gyaur Qala is the remains of an ancient fortress that once guarded important trade routes across the region. The name translates roughly as “Fortress of the Infidels”, reflecting the complex history of cultures and religions that passed through this land. Believed to be more than two thousand years old, the fortress once served as a strategic settlement along early Silk Road routes. Today only fragments of its walls remain, yet they still reveal the scale of this once-powerful stronghold and offer a glimpse into the lives of ancient traders and travelers.
Visit a traditional camel farm where you can see camels up close and learn about their role in desert life. Here you will have the opportunity to taste shubat — a traditional fermented camel milk drink, known for its unique taste and health benefits. This stop adds an authentic local experience to your journey, allowing you to connect with the culture and traditions of the region.
A unique stop at a historic Soviet-era aircraft, located in an open desert landscape. This location offers a striking contrast between aviation history and the surrounding desert scenery. \n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\nIt’s a perfect place for memorable photos and a short break, where you can get up close to the aircraft and capture impressive travel shots.
The cafe offers simple and tasty local dishes in a calm and comfortable atmosphere. It is a nice opportunity to relax, share impressions from the day, and experience the warm hospitality of the town.
The Ship Cemetery in Muynak is one of the most striking landmarks connected to the history of the Aral Sea. Here, rusted fishing vessels rest on the dry seabed, creating a surreal landscape in the middle of the desert. These ships once belonged to a busy fishing fleet when Muynak was an active port on the Aral Sea. Today, they stand as powerful reminders of the dramatic environmental changes that transformed the region and have become a unique and memorable destination for travelers.
At the Aral Sea Museum in Muynak, visitors can learn more about the history of the region, the development of the fishing industry, and the environmental changes connected to the shrinking of the Aral Sea. The museum displays include historical photographs, ship models, old maps, and other archival materials. Visitors can also watch a short documentary film of about 30 minutes that explains the history of the Aral Sea and the changes that have taken place in the region.
After completing the program in Muynak, guests will be transferred back to Nukus
